Over 150 students came out to the Highlighter Party sponsored by the Residential Hall Association (RHA) and the Class of 2012 in Cheney Hall on Friday, April 23.
According to James Connelly, a member of the Class of 2012 and one of the event’s organizers, the Highlighter Party has “been in the works for the whole semester.”
Black lights and a live student DJ were featured at the event. The first one-hundred students that attended received free white t-shirts and staff handed out highlighters and glow sticks. There was also free pizza and drinks available for attendees.
The Highlighter Party was an event that RHA and the Class of 2012 planned to cap off the semester.
Connelly said “the event idea came from the whole group as one of the biggest events we wanted to do for the year.”
The Highlighter Party received mixed reviews from students.
“I thought it was very well done,” said Marzell Barker. “They [RHA] should try doing more of those types of dances.”
Other students weren’t as impressed.
Freshman Kyle Phillips said, “I liked it but it didn’t meet my expectations…the highlighter idea was good though.”
Based on student feedback, RHA and the Class of 2012 may make the Highlighter Party an annual event.
“We had to see what the turnout was to see if people liked it,” said Connelly.
