The Baseball team completed their two-game sweep against Concordia this week, defeating the Clippers 9-4 on Thursday and 8-6 on Friday afternoon.

Originally scheduled to be a Friday day/night double header, the games were split up due to weather concerns.  Joe Flynn took the mound to start for the Ravens in game one and pitched a strong 7.2 innings, allowing nine hits and four runs.  Flynn would also strike out a total of seven batters.  Allowing one run in the first inning, Flynn would then go on to pitch six scoreless innings, going into the eighth securing the win.

Offensively, the Ravens were led by freshman center fielder Nick LaCroix.  Going 2-3 on the day, LaCriox hit a three run homer in the fifth inning, giving him a game-high three RBIs.    This would be part of a six run inning for the Ravens, which would be all the run support Flynn would need on the mound.

Leading Concordia at the plate was the designated hitter T.J. Walsh, going 3-4 with one RBI.

After taking a seven run lead into the eighth inning, Flynn ran into some trouble, allowing runners to reach first and third base with two outs.  Head Coach Jayson King went to the bullpen, using senior reliever Heath Wasylow.  The right-hander took over the game in dramatic fashion, striking out three and allowing no runs in 1.1 innings pitched.

Friday’s game ended up being just as run filled for the Ravens as their previous game.  Junior left fielder Mike Munoz went 3-4 with a pair of RBIs and also scored twice.  Senior right fielder Phil Hendricks would also go 3-4, adding a pair of double to the offensive attack for the Ravens.

Sophomore right-hander T.J. Ferguson pitched a near-perfect game, allowing only one run over seven innings pitched.  Coming in with what would become a save situation in the ninth inning was senior Rob Nicholas who came close to going perfect to end the game, but an errant throw on a potential game ending double play allowed two runs to score.  Nicholas would bounce back to force a pop fly from Concordia designated hitter T.J. Walsh to end the game.

The Ravens improved to 25-10 overall on the season in the two game sweep.  They’ve since split a weekend series at Pace, bringing their record to 26-11.  The Ravens play again Monday at Southern New Hampshire, and return home Thursday, April 22 to host Assumption at 6:00 p.m.
