Between 25 to 30 students attended the Second Annual Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) Masquerade Ball on Saturday night, March 6.

The attendance was down from last year, which had approximately 50 people. They did not have much advertisement this year. GSA hopes for a bigger turnout in years to come.  “This is not too popular on campus yet. Every year is a different theme. We are trying to get people together in a chill environment,” said Matty Lin Roumacher, President of the GSA Club.

The theme of this year’s GSA Ball was Mas’queer’ade. This was a Franklin Pierce community event. They encouraged everyone who attended the dance to bring a mask to wear throughout the night. People who attended got to enjoy chocolate fondue, candy and drinks.

Former Club President Paul Clifford came up with the idea last year to do a Valentine’s Day Masquerade. “It’s a good way to get everyone together. Usually it’s a good turnout and a good alternative to a Saturday night,” said Gabby Melancon, GSA Club Secretary.

People were able to get up and dance to their favorite songs during the night. One favorite for a handful of people was Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.”

Pierce Hall was decorated with balloons, flags and spot lights to set up a dancing atmosphere for the Ball. “I’m really happy. Visually, it looks a lot better than last year,” said Chad Payson, GSA Club Senator.

The GSA is sponsoring two upcoming events in April including the Day of Silence. The date for this is not yet been planned. The other event taking place is Gay Pride at the Beach Day, which will be held on April 25.
