Fencing Club has New Look

The Fencing club jumps into action and fights their way to the top with the coaching of Aaron Arden in the back left corner of the bubble.

Arden, club president, first thought of forming the fencing club over the winter break. When he got back to school he spoke to Doug Carty, and Carty thought it was a great idea.

“It was just something to start,” said Arden.  “Jesse Warren sent in an order for the equipment that we need, such as foils, mask, gloves and a jacket.”

The equipment is not due to come in until Monday Marc h 1, so Arden has the team practicing their footwork; instead of using the foils they use winter gloves.  After they have practiced enough the team plans to compete against two schools around the area, The University of New Hampshire and Keene State, but before they can compete they are working on a plan to help fundraise by buying a table at the Haiti fundraiser being held at the bubble on Sunday, February 28.

Junior Brad Herrick says, “I think it’s interesting to have something new on campus for students to get involved in.”

“I think it’s a great opportunity for the school,” added Cassie Demontigny, a sophomore and the Secretary Treasurer. “It’s a great way for people to get involved in the school and to try something new.”

The team practices in the back left corner of the bubble on Mondays and Wednesdays from nine to eleven, and on Fridays from seven to nine. Email Aaron Arden at ardena@franklinpierce.edu for more questions.
