The Pierce Activities Council (PAC) announced it will be canceling the annual spring concert for 2010, and will be replacing it with a nightclub dance event to be held on April 9th.

The cancellation of the event was not due to a lack of funding, according to Derek Scalia, Assistant Director of Student Involvement.

The spring concert cancellation came as a surprise to some students, but Scalia says this is what the students wanted.

Over 300 students took a survey in the glass foyer sponsored by PAC, which listed options for a spring event.  Over 60% of students voted on a nightclub event over a spring concert.

“With this information the e-board decided to go with the students and plan this alternative event,” said Scalia.

PAC plans to keep this spring a popular event by hiring a real club D.J. from Boston, or a popular radio station D.J.  “This is an exciting opportunity as the e-board is working to better meet the needs and desires of our students as they continue to plan quality programming on and off campus,” said Scalia.

By giving the students what they asked for, PAC members believe the turn out will be large, and hopefully start a great tradition.

Caitlin Smith, Travel Chair of the Executive Board said, “We think it is something new that the campus will like, and if there is not a good response we will go back to the spring concert.”

Over the past few years, the annual spring concert has featured performers such as Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, and most recently, Eve 6.  Smith said that when looking at performers for this year’s concert the choices were limited.  “With our budget we were looking at 90’s performers and up and coming bands,” said Smith.

With the nightclub themed event, PAC will be able to give more to the students in terms of a popular D.J. and a real dance atmosphere.  As with the spring concerts in the past, this event will be open to all students free of charge.
