Since her time at Franklin Pierce, one student who has made her name internationally has been 2009 alum Toby Martin.

She transferred from Thomas College after her freshmen year, and became a standout in and out of the classroom at Franklin Pierce. In the classroom, Martin posted above a 3.5 GPA. Outside of the classroom she was a basketball standout. At Thomas College she was first team All-Conference in basketball, as well as soccer. While at Franklin Pierce, Martin was a part of the 2007-2008 Elite Eight team. “Basketball at school taught me a lot about myself. We also had a very successful team and it was great experience to be a part of,” said Martin. Basketball was good to Martin as now it has become her profession. Toby Martin currently plays professional basketball in Germany. “I absolutely love it. Not only am I doing something I love, but I’m able travel the world at the same time,” said Martin.

Martin was a Mass Communication major during her time at Franklin Pierce. “To be honest, classes were classes! I enjoyed some of the classes at Franklin Pierce and then there were others I had a hard time waking up for,” said Martin. She went through all of the Professor Paul Bush journalism classes, which she said were not the classes hard to get up for. Martin wrote for The Exchange as well. “The Exchange was a great way to get a ‘real world’ experience at the college level,” said Martin. Martin went on to mention how it was great to work with students with similar interests and Journalism skills.

When Martin was speaking on her times at Franklin Pierce there were a few people she gave credit to for her success. She was thankful for her two best friends Rachel Kimball and Angelica Benjamin, “They were always there for me. It didn’t matter if it was with schoolwork, basketball, or just going out to dinner. They really helped make my college experience great,” she said. Martin also mentioned, basketball graduate assistant Amy, who she said, “Pushed me and encouraged me to be the best player I could.” The last person Toby wanted to thank was her Journalism teacher and advisor Professor Paul Bush. “He helped me sign up for classes, taught me a few things and ultimately helped me graduate,” said Martin

“Overall, I had a great experience at Franklin Pierce. I established lifelong friendships with people from all over the country and all over the world,” said Martin
